The dred is sitka over local black walnut that I found in The scrap pile at a local sawmill. The back is crotch grain, and the sides are quartered. Al |

Nice Al! Any problems with the crotch figure? Stable? I'm thinking on some... |

I resawed mine from an old plank. It had no checks in the crotch. When I thickness sanded it, it curled up like a potato chip. but I was able to flatten it easily, and it hasen't moved since. This box has been closed up since about October, so far nothing's moved. I spent several months on the road between Oct and Jan so I didn't have much time to work on it. If I would take the time it could be playing in short order. I guess the jury is still out on crotch grain, but this piece appears to be stable. I think I will play this one for a year or so, and then if it holds up, and someone wants it I may sell it as used. Al |

I forget the brand, but it's a standard mineral spirit type dark brown. I bought it at woodcraft. The finish is just started on both guitars will be much shineyier soon. Al |
